Philippine Senate: Leo San Miguel is Lacson's suprise witness on the NBN deal

Leo San Miguel surfaced this morning at the Senate as Senator Panfilo Lacson's new witness on the controversial NBN ZTE deal.

Right now at the hearing, San Miguel has just said that he was hired as the consultant of ZTE by Yu Yong. No document proves this arrangement. He was promised one half of one percent of the project cost if it succeeds.

He says that his responsibility was purely technical in nature.

He said that he hired Madriaga as his consultant.

Hi Anonymous.

Senator Lacson allegedly believes that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was able to talk to Leo San Miguel at around 11AM on the day that he was set to testify. Details of that alleged conversation are not known but it is suspected that the President convinced him to keep his mouth shut on how the advances from ZTE was partitioned among the supposed brokers of the deal. There is scant evidence of this alleged phone conversation with the President except for a video taken by ABC 5 Reporter Arlene Lim Farol of the phone log on PLLO Agana's cellphone which said that he made a call to or received a call from Medy Poblador, the President's personal secretary or girl Friday.
