Venus Raj chokes on the Miss Universe Question and Answer Portion

Question to Venus: What is one big mistake that you did in your life? And what did you do to make it right?

Answer: In my 22 years of existence, there is nothing major, major problem that I have done in my life. Because I am very confident with my family and the love they are giving to me. So thank you so much.

In anycase, I hope miss Venus Raj remembers her commitment to help save the Earth from environmental degradation and plastics pollution.

Venus could have explained about her dethronement and how she fought for her crown. Instead, she has chosen not to (probably because of nervousness and time constraint). Still...congratulations, Miss Raj. You are still a winner and you have represented the Philippines well. Good luck to you and your family!

Wah! That's sad! I think the Q&A portion is where most Filipina beauty queens fail. They're very witty when the questions aren't formal, though.

oh ikaw na si venus!

her answer is good... kulang lang sa concise elaboration... like thankful sya sa family nya dahil pinalaki sya ng tama and everyone should value how important is the family...

dethronement? i think it was not a big mistake kaya nga nya pinaglaban diba? she will fight for what is right. yun ang point.

Poor Venus. She probably just got too nervous. Our beauty queens are normally witty but they get afflicted with too much nervousness when it comes to answering pageant questions.

still her answer with "major major" chorva sounds like she's a contestant sa tabi tabing beauty pageant

tama si ate... dapat isinagot nya yung dethronement... tsk!

I agreed na dapat yung about sa dethronement ang binanggit niya...She made a big mistake why siya nadethroned...Yung pagfight niya para sa crown niya ang dapat na sinagot niya na resolution sa mistake na ginawa niya kung bakit siya na dethroned...

Her dethronement was not a big mistake, rather her shortcoming to have legal matters settled before joining Bb. Pilipinas which would have avoided the identity issue in the first place. THAT would have been a great answer since what she did to make it right was fight for her title and eventually gave her the opportunity to land a spot on the top 5. In all honesty, 5 seconds to her answer and I just said: "Ay, bobo pala. Sayang." You have to admit it was really a stupid answer.

ate.... about her dethronement... una di ba parang nawawalan na sya ng hope na ipaglaban.. pero yung mga tao sa paligid nya yung nagpush sa kanya para ipaglaban yung karapatan nya....

"contestant sa tabi-tabi lang"?! ikaw kaya yung tumayo sa kinatatayuan nya kung di ka din kabahan..and, hindi ganun ka-broad yung tanong sa kanya hindi tulad ng tanong sa ibang contestant.. she did her best, that's the important..and she maid it to the best 5..kung pangit man yung sagot nya, hindi nya ginusto yun..

long live Venus Raj!
long live Philippines!

napakaraming nag-mamagaling na tao, akala nman nila masasagot nila ng spontaneous yung ganung klaseng tanong.. dapat let’s just all be proud of Venus period, hindi na kelangan ulit ulitin pa yung mga words na nagamit nya to express herself dahil sa mixed emotions, pressure, nerbyos..atleast hindi sya na-tameme dahil mahirap nman talaga yung tanong and anyway it’s done..and getting the fourth runner up in miss universe is not easy, yun ngang mga matatalino at MAGAGALING mag-english na contestants noon ni hindi nasama sa top 15 eh. nakakalungkot lang na kapwa pilipino pa ang humuhusga sa kapwa pilipino.. :(

NAUUSO NAMAN YUNG SAGOT NYANG "MAJOR MAJOR". IT'S MEANS, "BONGGANG BONGGA" DI BA? IBIG SABIHIN WALA SYANG BONGGANG BONGGANG PROBLEM NA NA-ENCOUNTER. HAHAHA..... BESIDES, DAPAT SINAGOT NYA, NOT A MISTAKE ON MY SIDE BUT FOR THE PEOPLE BEHIND BB. PILIPINAS FOR MY DETHRONEMENT... THEN ELABORATE PA NYA. DI BA? DAPAT PANALO SYA DOON...

This is what "pwede na yan" and "let's just be proud" brings us. Substandard intellect.

hi. i don't think dethronement is her biggest mistake, because on the very first place, it wasn't her choice to have a father with different nationality. those things happened for a purpose. i guess, when she said she didn't have any major problem, her schema of a problem could be like involving herself to drugs or premarital sex, and that she means that at age 22, she hasn't experience those because the way her family or mother brought her up, and that she's thankful for her family because she hasn't encountered those MAJOR problems. siguro, train na lang mabuti yung susunod, but moreover, i still admire her determination. :)

elow po...
d naman kasi mistake ni Venus ang pagkadethroned sa kanya... Problem nya po yun... hindi mistake niya...
her dethronement is not related with the mistakes she did...

I was sad and yet happy na kahit papa ano naka pasok sya sa top 5. But she was the most beautiful contestant doon, napaka exotic ng dating nya. She could have won...

Having endured public controversy on account of her late-registered Birth Certificate and then bravely overcoming it to recover her beauty crown from BPCI in time, Miss Maria Venus Raj could have answered Mr. William Baldwin better by saying:

"One big mistake I may have made in life was omitting the inelegance of my complicated origins when I competed for the Binibining Pilipinas beauty crown. I corrected the mistake by personally declaring a sad truth about my humble international beginnings. Happily, doing the right thing when it became due worked things out wonderfully and so, thank you so much to my family and friends for all the love and support, for here I am tonight with audacity of hope to try to win as Miss Universe 2010!”

Considering that exotic and regal Miss Philippines was No.3 in swimsuit and No. 5 in gown (on same averaged rank with Miss Australia), do you think she would have made a different result? Still, making it to the Top 5 is already big honor by itself! CONGRATULATIONS, MISS RAJ!

Hmmm.. about the dethronement, just want to clarify, hindi mistake ni Venus Raj yung pagkaka dethrone ng title sa kanya. Pagkakamali nya ba yun? di ba hindi. Makes sense?

A colleague of mine at work asked me how would I have answered this Ms. Universe Question.

I would have answered this question plain & simple.

"The greatest mistake of my life is not being able to apply for a passport early on. If I was able to apply for a passport in my much younger years, I could have done two things --

FIRST, I could have more time for training for this prestigious pageant (remember the only thing was needed was a passport for Bb. Pilipinas Foundation to accept the nationality of Venus). The training I had, never prepared me for the obvious...that I am here competing with very good-natured ladies, who equally deserves this much-coveted crown; and

The last thing, I could have traveled to one or two countries whom at least one of these very amazing ladies represent, it could have prepared me to explore the very rich cultures each country possess, and I would have been able to converse with friends I gained in the few days that I have been here. I could have said, "Good Morning" or "Thank you" in their own language, and would immediately break the barriers!

That is the greatest mistake I could think of. But, look at the "silver-lining"...Las Vegas, Nevada...is the FIRST Foreign place I've been to...and the USA, being first COUNTRY I ever traveled to! And like many, FIRST things in your life...this place will hold a very MEMORABLE PLACE in my HEART!"

********

I think, that would have given our country the coveted Ms. Universe Crown!!!

By the way, this is a very hard question to answer because of one thing...WE DON'T WANT TO ADMIT WE MADE A MISTAKE. We don't know that we NEED to make mistakes...when that is the only thing that would prepare us for
life's difficult phases.

Mistakes, makes us do the RIGHT thing, on the next time it happens again. They're are not regrets...we should look at them as LIFE LEARNINGS!"

I hope we can make our future contestants bring an interpreter with them so our future candidates can answer the Q&A in our native tongue...answering in Filipino I think will make our candidate more mysterious and enigmatic to the panel of judges and it will be nice for the world to hear the beautiful intonation of our filipino language.
